USMTGUI Functions Description
To Run a backup of one or more local User Profiles you simply follow the three steps shown on the GUI below.
After selecting where to save, you specify which users will be backed up, if you want the backup password protected (do not throw the password away!), and if you want both the Users settings (Outlook mail, IE favorites, Desktop, documents, pictures, videos, music etc.) and the Application settings.
Note!: USMT does NOT migrate the applications themselves. Only the Application settings!
See here What USMTGUI does/doesn't migrate?
Note2!: To precisely control what is migrated and how to change that, se the MS USMT Reference.
(this involves XML editing which isn't a tedious task!)
To Restore of one or more local User Profiles from a Backup, simply point to the stored data and select which, or all, users to restore .
If you made the backup password protected please enter the password, and decide if you want both the Users settings (Outlook mail, IE favorites, Desktop, documents, pictures, videos, music etc.) and the Application settings restored. - Normally you Just leave them on!
Note!: It is NOT the applications themselves. Only their settings!
Note2!: If a local (workgroup) account is restored (fx. while logged in as the Administrator) you can choose to have the account both created and enabled. - Normally you Just leave them on!
Note3!: As a new feature in USMT GUI 5 the USMT domain functionality is fully enabled. After I released the first USMT GUI I realized that not only home users like it and the demand for a domain capable version has increased over the years.
SO! It is now possible to use the GUI to also migrate Domain accounts and, with version 10, also to another domain and another Username!
Please be ware that the User being migrated must already have an account on the Target domain !!
